-The Journey To The End- 1


Chapter 1

As Samantha Peterson’s reddish brown hair rubbed against her face she stood on her deck and looked out at the neighborhood and she, for the first time was the oldest child in the house.(not that John-her older brother- never left the house. Just for this long period she will be) Samantha Peterson has long curly red-brown hair, dark green eyes and a angel carved face, she is a fourteen year old girl living in the town of Mount Vernon, Washington.
“We didn’t want you worrying about them, so we thought it would be best not to tell you.” Is what her mother would say, Samantha was scared now that her father was gone and she didn’t know what too do. Her father and oldest brother had gotten drafted into the war after they sent in thier letters, They had apparently thought it best not to tell her… so it wouldn’t frighten her, as her mother said.

As Samantha sat on her deck she watched as some men came home here and there. She got up and took Johns letter off of her night stand, just too make herself feel worse then she already felt, she read Johns letter out loud once, then over and over again in her head. She knew it was true, but didn’t want to.

Dear Mother, Samantha, Rose, Andy and Kate,
One of our scouts has just reported that there are some enemy troops passing through our land, and will probably get to us in about a day or two, so we have to fight them off, But don’t be afraid we have the General here, though father says that does not mean anything, I think it does…
Please pray that God will keep us safe, Love you all, John______________________



She read it once more, she could not bear to think about why he drew that line. Maybe because the soldiers came in to there camp one day early, or because he got bumped. She thought no more and looked at her clock, it was twelve o’clock AM.
She looked out at the town of Mount Vernon, Washington and pondered the thought of her brother and father being safe or in danger. Then she wondered if Father and John were asleep yet and even if mom was asleep, all she knew now was that she was praying that her father and brother would be safe no matter where they were.

“Get up, Get up! We’re going to be late for school!!”
Rose was jumping on Samantha’s bed shouting at her. Rose was Samantha’s younger sister she is eleven, she has long red hair and was very tall for her age.
“Ok, ok I'm up.” said Samantha sounding very tired. “And if you don’t be quite you’re going to wake up Kate.” Kate is the youngest child in the Peterson family, she is Seven years old. She has blonde hair just like her father and looks vary similar to Samantha.
“Well I'm just doing my duty!”
“Uhh don’t speak of duty” She said quietly, “It’s too hard for them to bear…”
“for who?” Rose Said.
“No one Rose.” Samantha’s Mother said, if anyone talked about there father and John (and rose knew), Rose would burst into tears. She always would get frightened if father was gone. “Samantha were you thinking of them?”
Her mother would talk in ‘them’s’’ when only her and Samantha knew who ‘them’ was, as if she didn’t want anyone else knowing what they were talking about. It made Samantha annoyed.
“Yes. and so what?” Samantha said.
Her mother looked at Samantha’s night stand and saw the letter from John.
“Samantha, they will be alright. Stop worrying the Lord will protect them.” Her mother said softly. “Just pray.”
Her mother and Rose left her room.
