Elle Arrive!!!

Hey folks, this is a day #21, 22, and 23 report all rolled into one.

The last 2 days before Janice's arrival were filled with much anticipation and sweat.  Anticipation because of Janice's and the kids impending arrival.  Much sweat because the generator quit working again.  Thankfully for all of us, the repair of the generator went as smoothly as did the return flight of momma and the kiddos.

Today (day #23) was filled with kids enjoying their bounty of stuff provided by friends and relatives that Janice brought back.  And, as an added bonus, Janice slept until 1 PM today.  Awesome!

Thanks to everyone who lifted all of us up in prayer over these last 3 weeks.  We surely felt every one of them.

Have a great weekend.

Day #20

2 more days until Janice, Liddy, and H. come back.  We are very excited.  Especially Payton because she'll be bringing lots of gifts for him from the States since his birthday was 2 days ago.

Highlight of the day was being able to spend a few minutes with friends in town.

Low point of the day was saying goodbye to the Raun's as they leave this evening at about 11 PM.

Until tomorrow.

Day #19

Today was a sleepy Sunday.  We had a good time just hanging out at home and celebrating Payton's 16th birthday.  I cannot believe 16 years ago today he was born.  I must say, he is some of the best work Janice has ever done.

We also welcomed back home Emma and Gracey who had spent the week with some friends about 6 hours away.

Highlight of the day was our celebration of Payton's birthday.

Low point of the day was waking up this morning only to realize that my wife wasn't sleeping next to me.  Heavy sigh!

Until tomorrow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAYTON!!

Today (the 7th) is Payton's 16th birthday. Happy Birthday to you! Now, there aren't many pictures of you, so you need to change that for those of us over here that don't get to see you!
Have a great day,
We love you, from all of your family and friends across the ocean,
Auntie Lisa

Day #18

It's been very hot here (over 110 degrees) but, thankfully, there hasn't been too much humidity.  I am looking forward to Gracey and Emma returning from Doh.  They are so much fun to be around that I miss them terribly.  Speaking of missing people, I miss Janice and the other kids, too.  I can't wait for them to get home.

Highlight of the day was taking a nap with Esther.  (I didn't plan on it but when I laid down with her the next thing I remember is waking up!)

Low point of the day... there really wasn't one.  We had fun the whole day.

See you tomorrow.

Day #17

Boring was the word of the day, meaning that we really didn't have much excitement around here.  Nevertheless it was a good day.  And, tomorrow, we will be going into town to pick up some supplies.

Highlight of the day was being able to re-start the generator without any problem after I had added diesel.

Low point of the day was talking to Janice and discovering that she's not feeling well again.

See you later.

Day #16

We went into town today to take care of some shopping and to get the mail.  We also stopped by our favorite patiserie and bought some goodies.  We also went by my favorite Chadian fast food restaurant and purchased some seasoned meat.  That's right, just seasoned meat.  We bought 4,000 Francs worth and that was enough to feed us for lunch.  It is very tasty.

Highlight of the day was finding Lays potatoe chips at one of the local stores.  They are the size one can find in convenience stores in the US.  You know, the 99 cent size.  Well, here they cost over $3.00 so we only bought 5 of them.  Man, I think if I had let them the kids woulda eaten all 5 bags.

Low point of the day was forgeting that I turned on the water to fill our water filters only to discover about 10 minutes later that I had forgot that I turned on the water.  Our cook room has about 1/2 inch of water in it as well as a pretty good lake in our kitchen and dining room.  (Sorry, honey, I promise it'll all be cleaned up before you get home.)

Until tomorrow.

Day #15

Pretty good day today.  Kids, though, are really starting to show the wear and tear of not having mom around.  Me too.  It's tough.  But, we don't want her and Liddy back until everyone is healthy.  As much as we miss them, we want them healthy and if that means staying longer, then they need to stay longer.

It's pretty quiet around here as we're the only residents of the Welcome Center right now save for one, single woman who's staying in room 14.

Highlight of the day was Payton calling Janice on his cell phone.  They had a great chat and he even put the phone on speaker so that his siblings could listen in and talk.  Way to go Payton.

Low point of the day was that I could only get one taker on my proposal to walk to the river.  Only Tawnee wanted to go.  Bummer.  Maybe tomorrow.

Until then....

Day #14

Well, nothing spectacular to report today.  The day was pretty boring and that's ok with me.  About the only noteworthy event was finding out that the solar system batteries need a healthy dose of water.  Trouble is, it must be distilled water and since we only had ten bottles of it left I was only able to fill 3 batteries before I ran out.  I was hoping to run on batteries all night tonight.  Maybe tomorrow after I get some more water.

Highlight of the day was talking to Janice on the phone for just a bit.  Talked to my parents too so that was an added bonus.

Low point of the day was saying goodbye to Gracey and Emma who will be spending a week with some friends in Doh.  I'm glad they went but I don't think Esther or Tawnee are too happy about it.  Gracey is their second mother and they miss her.

See you all tomorrow.

Day #13

Today was maybe the best day since Janice has been gone for it being "normal". Kids actually schooled, some shopping was done, we played a little, and the kids all go along. And, as a bonus, after stopping the generator to add diesel, it actually started up again after I was done! Yippee!!!

Highlight of the day was getting to talk to Janice for an extended number of minutes. And, every kiddo got to talk to her too. She sounded great.

Low point of the day was talking to Liddy, hearing the sadness in her voice (she wants to be home in the worst way), and realizing that she was crying. Broke my heart.

Hope you all have a great day. Until tomorrow.
